Colorado Coal-fired Power Plants

Coal-fired power plants in Colorado that WildEarth Guardians is targeting for clean up, repowering, or retirement.

Our goal: a full transition away from coal by 2035. Already, Xcel Energy has proposed to retire or repower a little over 1,000 megawatts, or about 20% of Colorado’s total coal-fired generating capacity. It’s not enough, but it’s a good start.

Health impacts data, where available, comes from the Clean Air Task Force and emissions data comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Clean Air Act issues related to each coal-fired power plant relate to the issues that has identified as a key liability at the plant and that WildEarth Guardians is actively pursuing.  Zoom in and click on the symbols, or open the map in a larger view for easier navigating.
