President Trump and his Interior Secretary, Ryan Zinke, are clamoring to open up more of our American public lands for fracking. On behalf of the oil and gas industry, they’re pushing to auction off more lands to private companies and to speed up drilling permits.
The reality is, this is a scam. There is no need to sell more public lands for fracking and already, the oil and gas industry is sitting on more than 7,500 drilling permits doing absolutely nothing with them.
Check out latest mapping series showing just what’s all going on here. It’s short, but insightful. See for yourself how much of our public land is already under the control of oil and gas companies, how much production is actually happening on these lands, and how many drilling permits are sitting idle.
As we’ve said before, Trump and Zinke’s plans aren’t so much about increasing oil and gas production as they are about handing over control of our public lands to the likes of BP, Exxon, and Chevron.
This isn’t about energy, it’s about the future of our public lands. See for yourself how industry and their cronies in the federal government are pulling out all the stops to control the American West and keep the United States dependent on fossil fuels.
